Myanmar State Counsellor, President & senior officials from ruling party detained by military

NAYPYITAW: In Myanmar, State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, President U Win Myint and other senior officials from the ruling party have been detained by the military.

The Myanmar military television has also declared a state of emergency in the country for one year.

Meanwhile, the United States has said it opposes any attempt to alter the outcome of recent elections or impede Myanmar’s democratic transition.

The US said it will take action against those responsible if these steps are not reversed.
