National Security Advisor Moeed Yusuf has urged the international community to stay engaged with the Afghan leadership to avert the risks of security vacuum.

During an interactive session with foreign media along with Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain in Islamabad today, he said if the West repeated the major mistake of the 1990s and abandoned Afghanistan, it would create a security vacuum that would lead to spread of terrorism in the region.

The Adviser said an inclusive government with a moderate governance model is the only way forward for peace in Afghanistan. For durable stability in Afghanistan, he called for internationally coordinated effort, backed with an economic plan.

Counting on Pakistan's sacrifices in the war against terrorism, Moeed Yusuf said we always supported a political solution to the war-torn country's conflict.

The Adviser said Pakistan is no longer in a position to accept Afghan refugees as it currently hosts about 3.5 million. He said we have completed the fencing of ninety-seven percent of our border with Afghanistan.

Moeed Yusuf said Pakistan will continue facilitation for evacuation of foreigners from Afghanistan. He said we have so far evacuated over eight thousand people; and of them, less than nine hundred were Pakistanis.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister for Information said Pakistan is playing an important and responsible role for peace and stability in Afghanistan.

He said the people of Afghanistan themselves would form the government, and Pakistan would continue its efforts for a peaceful Afghanistan.

The Minister said the role of Pakistan’s Embassy in Kabul is being appreciated all over the world, including by the international media.
